Marco Godoy

Marco Godoy’s practice consists of a set of strategies with which to throw light on and work with dissent. The exhibition space is viewed as a place associated with specific moments from our social and political context related with issues concerning our past and our present. After leveraging these situations, he draws up proposals that can serve as some kind of response.

Through visual formats such as video, sculpture and actions, Godoy reflects about the way an authority figure is constructed and legitimized through the use of images, spaces and actions. Whether it is the way a family is organized or the structure of a state, these relationships speak of how we position ourselves with regards others, and how these elements are staged and given a degree of theatricality.

In this sense, the exhibition space turns into a meeting place, into a platform from which to search for ways of collaborating with individuals or collectives. Whether it is ultimately visible or not at the end of the process, the exchange is a key part of the work.
